Congenital absence of the intrahepatic segment of the inferior vena cava with azygos continuation presenting as a mediastinal mass.

چکیده
A child with the isolated anomaly of azygos continuation of the inferior vena cava is presented. The interest of this abnormality lies in its detection as a mediastinal mass on the chest radiograph. Computed tomography with intravenous contrast enhancement is the method of choice to diagnose this venous anomaly. Awareness of the caval-azygos abnormality is important to surgeons and cardiologists. Accidental ligation of the azygos vein is fatal and cardiac catheterization using the lower extremity vein is troublesome in patients with this condition.

Heterotaxy syndrome and interrupted inferior vena cava (IVC) with azygos continuation
Heterotaxy syndrome or situs ambiguous is a rare congenital disease in which the pattern of anatomical organization of the thoraco-abdominal visceral and vascular structures is not arranged in normal position. Patients with heterotaxy syndrome represent a wide range of anatomical variations including thoraco-abdominal structures. Here we report a rare case of asymptomatic heterotaxy syndrome in...

Dilatation of the azygos-hemiazygos venous system presenting as paravertebral masses may be seen in intrahepatic and extrahepatic portal vein obstruction, anomalous pulmonary venous return, occlusion of the superior and inferior vena cava, persistence of the left superior vena cava, hepatic vein obstruction, elevation of central venous pressure as in congestive heart failure, pericardial effusi...
متن کاملMediastinal Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of Unknown Origin Presenting with Superior Vena Cava Syndrome (SVCS): A Case Report
Primary neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the mediastinum is a rare type of carcinoma. According to the literature, only five cases of this condition have been reported so far. In this paper, we present a rare case of mediastinal NEC of unknown primary site. The patient was a 34-year-old man with mediastinal NEC, who presented with chronic dry cough and a right-sided mediastinal mass one year p...
متن کاملInfrahepatic caudal/inferior vena cava interruption with azygos/hemiazygos continuation. Vascular anomaly in swine
BACKGROUND Swine are commonly used as a model to study congenital cardiovascular defects that occur in humans and these models have been both spontaneous and experimentally induced. Ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, and atrial septal defect (ASD) are examples of experimentally induced models. Absence of caudal/inferior vena cava (CVC/IVC) with azygos/hemiazygos continuation i...
متن کاملA case of anomalous inferior vena cava with azygos continuation associated with situs inversus totalis and acquired mitral valvular disease.
NOMALOUS inferior vena cava with azygos or hemiazygos continuation has been considered to be a very rare anomaly in the past. However, since the development of cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography, this congenital abnormality has been reported with increasing frequency. This anomaly is usually associated with other cardiovascular defect, and there are few reported cases without other m...
